Vision-Ease Lens Recognized for Excellence in Safety by Minnesota Safety Council

RAMSEY, MINN. – Vision-Ease Lens, a leading ophthalmic lens manufacturer, was recently honored with a Minnesota Governor’s Safety Award. The award was received during a luncheon at the Minnesota Safety & Health Conference held May 9-11, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

“Healthy employees directly correlate to healthy business,” said Doug Hepper, president and CEO, Vision-Ease Lens. “We’re honored by the recognition from the Minnesota Safety Council, as it’s a reflection of our dedication to minimizing risks in the workplace and keeping employee safety a priority.”

Each year, nearly 6 million workers suffer non-fatal workplace injuries at an annual cost to U.S. businesses of more than $125 billion, according to the Minnesota Safety Council. Because of this alarming statistic, many companies like Vision-Ease Lens not only promote safety in the work place, but are also being recognized for it.

This is the second time Vision-Ease Lens has received the Meritorious Achievement level – one of three recognizable levels – of the Governor’s Safety Award. The Minnesota Safety Council also recognized Vision-Ease Lens with the award in 2006.

To be honored with a Governor’s Safety Award, participants submit injury information which is compared with national and state data, as well as the entrant’s past performance.

This year, 217 employers were honored for excellence in workplace safety and health. The Governor’s Safety Award winners are recognized at three levels: Meritorious Achievement (104 winners this year) for employers who showcase better than average performance in incident rates; Outstanding Achievement (53 winners this year) or employers who have continuing improvement and/or a continuing outstanding record; and Award of Honor (60 winners this year) for employers with exceptional accomplishment in reduction of injuries and illness in the workplace.
